Memory Care, Made Personal
Surrounded by the comforts of a real home, our residents enjoy calm, familiar routines and spaces designed to reduce stress and promote dignity. With just eight residents, we provide highly personalized dementia care—tailored to each individual’s preferences, habits, and needs. From how someone takes their coffee to how they’re greeted in the morning, every detail matters. Families seeking memory care in Alexandria, VA, often turn to us for a simpler, more connected alternative to larger facilities. Here, your loved one is truly known.
We’re not a facility—and that’s by choice. In large settings, memory care residents can struggle with overstimulation, unfamiliar layouts, and rotating staff. At Tilden, everything is built for simplicity and consistency. Our one-story home is easy to navigate, caregivers stay close by, and routines are steady and predictable. This creates a smoother transition and helps reduce the confusion, agitation, and withdrawal that can often happen in larger environments.
Our caregivers aren’t just here to help—they’re part of the home. Each team member is selected not just for experience, but for warmth, patience, and their ability to build genuine connections. With such a small group of residents, our caregivers have time to notice what brings someone comfort, what might be causing distress, and how best to support each person in the moment.
We require our team to memorize key details about each resident—from daily routines to favorite snacks—so that care feels natural and familiar, even when memory fades.
Every caregiver at Tilden is trained through Relias, a nationally respected senior care platform, and receives ongoing in-house mentorship from our full-time LPN, Eva Addo. We also partner with Dementia by Day, led by expert Rachael Wonderlin, to ensure that staff are prepared to meet the emotional and behavioral needs of residents living with dementia. Our training exceeds state requirements and far surpasses what is typical at most care providers.
Each of our rooms includes thoughtful safety features like roll-in showers, one-lever sink handles, and Dutch doors that offer both privacy and visibility. Our home is fully wheelchair accessible, with wide hallways, ramped exits, and no stairs—making daily routines feel easier and more secure for residents and families alike.
Our shared spaces feel like a true home—not a waiting room. Residents relax in the living room, enjoy soft music from the piano, or curl up for a nap in their favorite chair. When loved ones come to visit, there’s always a cozy spot to sit and spend time together.
Out back, a fully fenced yard offers space to enjoy a gentle breeze, sit in the sun, or share a quiet conversation. It’s a peaceful extension of the home—safe, simple, and inviting for residents and their families.
"As a Director of Hospice Admissions, I am always pleased when I see that a patient has chosen Tilden as their home. The care at Tilden is exceptional and personalized and the owner Wade assures that all staff know the residents well. It is a beautiful and spacious home and we have trusted our partnering with Tilden in the care of their residents who are in the last chapter of life."

"My Dad was the very first resident at Tilden Memory Care over two years ago and we are so pleased with the care that he receives. Dad was previously in a larger facility with about 20 people in the memory neighborhood. The difference is night and day - he isn't just another resident, but part of the family. The staff affectionately call him "Uncle Bob!" With just 8 residents, it feels more like home and he receives loving and personalized attention. I live about an hour away and wish I could visit more often, but knowing he is with his Tilden Family makes my heart happy and at ease. Highly recommend!"

Memory care is designed for individuals living with cognitive decline—such as Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia—who need close observation, personalized routines, and support managing daily life safely. Signs that memory care may be appropriate include increasing confusion, difficulty navigating the day, wandering, or behavior changes like agitation or withdrawal.
If you're unsure, we offer free care assessments to help you evaluate next steps. If you're not quite ready for a care assessment, free to call us at (571) 556-9339. We can often determine basic fit right over the phone.
Tilden isn’t a wing inside a larger facility—it’s a quiet, residential home designed specifically for comfort and clarity. With no elevators or long hallways, just a familiar layout and a steady rhythm to each day, our environment helps residents feel grounded from the moment they arrive.
Because there are fewer people and fewer distractions, residents tend to adjust more smoothly. Families often tell us that their loved ones seem calmer, more connected, and less overwhelmed here than they were in larger, more institutional settings.
Yes. Tilden is designed to keep residents safe without feeling restrictive or clinical. We use CarePredict wearable technology for passive monitoring and secure room access, along with CCTV in common areas, secured entry points, and Dutch half-doors that allow for staff visibility while maintaining privacy.
The home is fully fenced, single-story, and wheelchair accessible, with ramps at all exits, a backup generator, and a fire sprinkler system. We’re also located less than a mile from Inova Mt. Vernon Hospital and the local fire station for added peace of mind.
Please note that we are not a locked facility. Residents who are an active elopement risk or exhibit behaviors that may pose a danger to themselves or others are likely not a good fit for our home.
Tilden takes dementia care seriously. Every caregiver is trained through Relias, a nationally recognized senior care platform, and receives additional in-house training led by our full-time LPN. We also partner with Dementia by Day, led by dementia expert Rachael Wonderlin, to ensure staff are well-prepared for the emotional and behavioral needs of residents living with memory loss.
Training topics include communication, redirection, behavior support, and person-centered care techniques. Our small team structure means caregivers have time to build strong relationships and respond quickly and calmly to individual needs.
With just eight residents, we’re able to understand each person deeply. While we're not the Ritz Carlton, our caregivers are amazing at learning individual preferences—like coffee and favorite snacks—and adjust routines accordingly.
We stock resident favorites (yes, even frozen Snickers bars), follow personalized morning routines, and use custom room signage and color contrast to help residents navigate independently. Each caregiver also has access to detailed care notes, and our Dutch doors allow staff to check in easily without disrupting privacy. It’s these small details that help residents feel known and at ease.
We create opportunities for natural, low-pressure interaction throughout the day. That might mean a shared laugh at the lunch table, music drifting from the baby grand piano, conversations with staff, or relaxing on the back patio with other residents.
Because our setting is small and quiet, residents aren’t overwhelmed by large groups or over-scheduled activities. We gently invite participation in music, art, pet visits, and familiar routines—but never force it. Over time, we often see even quiet residents begin to re-engage on their own terms.
At Tilden, memory care isn’t priced separately or charged as a higher tier—it’s fully integrated into the care we provide. Whether your loved one is receiving assisted living or memory care, our team delivers personalized, dementia-informed support at no additional cost.
We use a mostly all-inclusive pricing model, so families don’t have to worry about add-on fees for day-to-day care. Care supplies and service at our on-site salon are billed separately.

Yes—visiting is always welcome and never treated like a formality. Families often drop by to share a meal, sit for a quiet chat, or simply check in. There are no rigid visiting hours, and you’re encouraged to come as often as you'd like.
We do ask that group visits or special requests (like bringing pets or outside guests) be coordinated with our team in advance to ensure a smooth experience for everyone. But everyday visits? They’re part of what makes this feel like home.
